FAQ’s at Winkelmann Chiropractic & Injury
1. How is a chiropractic adjustment performed?
A chiropractic adjustment involves a quick, carefully calibrated, low velocity thrust to different areas of the spine to correct misalignments, subluxations in the spine and create optimal nervous system function. While some chiropractors only adjust one region or the spine,
Dr. Winkelmann does a full spinal adjustment with each patient, and he is trained in many different extremity adjustment techniques as well.
For the techniques that Dr. Winkelmann ultizes, please see our Chiropractic Techniques section.
2. Is chiropractic care safe?
Chiropractic care is natural, non-invasive and drug-free. This means that chiropractic care is very safe, and your chiropractor will evaluate you for any adverse risks (although extremely rare) before he conducts a chiropractic adjustment. This is why we review your past medical history, your current symptoms, and take digital x-ray imaging before we start your care.
3. What training does a chiropractor have? What Chiropractic College did Dr. Winkelmann attend?
Chiropractic programs are similar to medical school requirements. Chiropractors spend thousands of hours studying the human body, spine, nervous system and diagnosis.
Dr. Winkelmann attended Palmer Chiropractic College, in Davenport, Iowa. Before Palmer Chiropractic College, Dr. Winkelmann attended the University of Wyoming where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in finance and a Masters in Business Administration.
4. What is the popping sound during an adjustment?
The “popping” sound during an adjustment is the result of tiny gas bubbles being released between your joints. You could compare it to the sound produced when a suction cup is removed. The shifting of gases and fluid in your joints make that same kind of popping sound when they are releasing. However, the quality of the adjustment should not be valued on the “pops” heard. Some corrective manipulations, will not produce a sound, but your joints are still being properly aligned.
5. Will a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Dr. Winkelmann’s adjustments are specific to your symptoms and his diagnosis. He tailors his adjustments to make sure you get the maximum benefit from manipulations and there is typically very little associated with chiropractic adjustments.
After your adjustment, it is normal to feel a little sore, like you have worked out at the gym. Your muscles and joints are getting used to new patterns. Minor soft tissue soreness can be part of the healing process as we are making changes and retraining muscles and soft tissues.
